Silane Reactive Penetrating Sealers

Last edit date: 5/2/2024

The following Silane Reactive Penetrating Sealers have been authorized for use when specifications require a Silane Waterproofing Treatment. Typical uses are for providing protection from water and waterborne contaminants to above grade concrete and masonry substrates. Silane Reactive Penetrating Sealers permeate concrete and masonry surfaces, adding hydrophobic properties to repel water and prevent chloride intrusion, while allowing water vapor to escape.

Silane Reactive Penetrating Sealers must meet the volatile organic carbon (VOC) content restrictions of the local Air Quality Management Districts in which they are applied. For California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) projects within the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD), Silane Reactive Penetrating Sealers can only be used for reinforced concrete bridge structures within five miles of the ocean or above 4000 feet in elevation. Prior to use on the project the product must be authorized by the Chemical Testing Branch. Refer to Section 54-7 Silane Waterproofing Treatment, of the Caltrans 2018 Standard Specifications.
