Methyl Methacrylate Traffic Striping Paint

Last edit date: 5/1/2024

Methyl Methacrylate (MMA) traffic paints are two-component liquid pavement marking/traffic striping materials that consist of a MMA resin (pigmented) and a catalyst.  The two components are mixed as they are applied and generally cure in less than 15 minutes (at 77°F).  Post applied glass beads shall have a coating recommended by the MMA paint manufacturer to improve bead retention in the stripe.  The odor of the MMA may be objectionable until it cures.  The odor might be a nuisance in highly populated areas.  Category 2 material (4:1 mix ratio) is used in recesses in regularly snow plowed highways and will be the most durable in all other applications.

Evaluation Criteria:  Authorization Procedures and Acceptance Criteria for Methyl Methacrylate Traffic Stripping and Pavement Markings are listed in Section 84-2 of the 2018 and 2022 Standard Specifications.

CATEGORY 2: Application thickness: 10 to 250-mils (250 mils recessed), Mix ratio 4:1
