Inorganic Zinc-Rich Primer

Inorganic zinc primer is used for coating new structural steel used on California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) projects. Uses are typically steel in bridges, soldier pile walls, and column casings.

Specification requirements for inorganic zinc primer are in Section 59-2 and Section 91-2.02A of the 2024 Standard Specifications. Coatings selected from the list must meet the volatile organic content (VOC) restrictions of local Air Quality Management Districts in which they are applied.
