Authorization Criteria for Integrated Vegetation Management Program - Pesticides List

General:  The procedures below outline the Authorization Criteria requirements for:

  1. Including a new product into an Authorized Materials List
  2. Renewing the authorization period for an existing product

New Product Authorization Criteria

Follow the procedure below if you have a new product not currently on the Authorized Materials List for Pesticides or Adjuvants:

The Manufacturer/Supplier shall provide the following in their submittal package:

  1. Completed Authorized Material List Submittal Form (TL 9502).
  2. Only pesticides in the following categories shall be considered
    1. (A): Insect, Mite and other Invertebrates
    2. (D): Vertebrates
    3. (E): Weeds
    4. (G): Plant Growth Regulators
  3. Product label
    1. Warning or Caution rated formulations only
    2. Registered for Non-Crop or Roadside applications
  4. Safety Data Sheet (SDS)
  5. 2 samples for field trials

If the product meets Caltrans criteria the following steps will occur:

  1. Sponsorship and Evaluation of the product by a Caltrans Landscape Specialist or Senior Environmental Scientist (Specialist)that is a Department of Pesticide Regulations certified California Pest Control Advisor.
  2. Evaluation of the product by a Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisor) for CEQA compliance
  3. Field trials and monitoring of results at specific days after application.

Please submit your completed submittal packages through the Product Evaluation Program at new.products@dot.ca.gov.


Reauthorization of existing Products

Follow the procedure below if you have an existing product on the Authorized Materials List that is approaching its expiration date.

To maintain an existing product on the AML, the Manufacturer/Supplier shall provide the following in their reauthorization package:

  1. Product label
    1. Warning or Caution rated formulations only
    2. Registered for Non-Crop or Roadside applications
  2. Safety Data Sheet (SDS)

Please submit your completed submittal packages through the Product Evaluation Program at new.products@dot.ca.gov.
Submittals must be received no later than 90 days before the expiration date to maintain an existing product on the AML.
